Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Victor Wanyama will be missing in action as premier league resume this weekend. According to ESPN Correspondent Dan Kilpatrick, the 26-year-old is going to miss the next few weeks due to a knee problem.
This is a blow to the Spurs team as the Kenya international has been a colossal figure in the side during the past 12 months. Wanyama has made an impact upon arrival in the team last summer and formed an effective partnership alongside Mousa Dembele in the midfield.
will be required to come up with proper alternatives where Eric Dier remains the most preferred player to fill the vacancy in meantime. Wanyama missed the last Spurs game before the international break against Burnley and will be out of contention at the weekend when they travel to Everton.
The defensive midfielder is likely to miss league clashes against Swansea and West Ham this month, while next Tuesday’s Champions League clash against Borussia Dortmund will come too soon for him. Wanyama is the most favored midfielder by manager Pochettino and was expected to play a big part at the start of the season. He is expected to return later in September.
Meanwhile, new signing Serge Aurier, 24 is yet to train with the squad after his deadline-day transfer was confirmed while he was on international duty with the Ivory Coast. He played 120 minutes in this week’s World Cup qualifying double-header against Gabon, returned to the club on Thursday to take part in light training. Pochettino is unlikely to risk him from the start at Goodison Park after his hectic week.
