The 2017 Wimbledon Championships

The games are coming up in the next three weeks. Are you prepared to have the best experience of the games? The Tournament runs from the last Monday of June and runs for 14 days, which means it closes on a Sunday. The 2017 event however will run from July 3rd to July 16th, 2017. It is the oldest tennis tournament in the world, and is widely considered the most prestigious. This will be the 131st edition of the championships.

The Club:

The championships are led and conducted by AELTC (All England Club and The Championships). The AELTC is a wholly owned subsidiary of The All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club Limited (the club) where on August 2011, acquired all the assets and undertakings of the club in relation to the Championships.

It’s a culture of all organisation to find a way and give back to the community. The All England Lawn Tennis Club has the Wimbledon Foundation. They help change people’s lives using the resources and heritage of Wimbledon. The methods used by the foundation are through playing, giving and learning.

The Rules:

Competitors are supposed to predominately dress in white. It’s a rule that was brought in 1995. Therefore, the competitors must be dressed in a suitable tennis attire that is almost entirely white and these applies from the point at which the player enters the court surround.

Broadcast:

The chosen broadcaster is BBC whom have an agreement with the AELTC. Global news access audience estimated to over 1 billion people in more than 200 territories.

Last Year’s Winners:

Andy Murray won and will defend his Gentlemen’s Singles

Serena Williams won but won’t defend her title this year having ended her season in April, due to pregnancy.

Serena Williams and her sister Venus Williams won the Women’s Doubles title whereas Pierre-Hagues Herbert and Nicholas Mahut won the Men’s Doubles titles. Venus Williams will however be participating this year.

Heather Watson and Henri Kontinen will be defending their Mixed Doubles titles
